Br. Brocard (David) Ryan of Saint Ann was born on January 11, 1896, in Baltimore, Maryland to
parents John and Julia (nee Leonard) Ryan. He was clothed in the Carmelite habit on July 26,
1925, and made his simple profession on January 25, 1928.

Br. Brocard died very suddenly on June 6, 1967, in Washington, DC, and is buried at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery next to Fr. Paschasius. Correspondence dated August 12, 1967 from the provincial to Fr. Dominic Scheerer records, “Washington does not seem the same without him [Br. Brocy] ambling through the corridors. By all accounts, he had a beautiful funeral. Fr. Kieran (Kavanaugh) said everyone remembered what a good old man he was and really laughed about all the times he had driven most of us to exasperation. I’m sure he is up there trying to help us straighten out our problems.”.
