Fr. Matthew (William) Scott of St. Theresa was born July 26, 1915, in Brooklyn, New York to parents George and Alice (nee O’Leary) Scott. He was clothed in the Carmelite habit on May 19, 1936, made his simple profession on May 20, 1937, at Holy Hill, Hubertus, Wisconsin and was ordained to the priesthood on May 28, 1942, by Bishop J. M. Corrigan in Washington DC.
Among his priestly ministries, Fr. Matthew was a lector of Philosophy and Latin (Preparatory) at Holy Hill. He was chaplain for the Milwaukee Brewers for many years and a great baseball fan. He also served as chaplain at the Clement Zablocki Medical Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin (VA Hospital) for over 33 years until his retirement from the facility in July 1991. While at the VA, Father was praised for his ministry to patients.
Fr. Matthew entered eternal life on June 25, 1993. His funeral Mass was held at St. Florian Catholic Church, West Milwaukee. He is buried at the Carmelite Cemetery in Hubertus, Wisconsin.
