Br. Louis Bertrand (Joseph) Scheerer of St. Gertrude was born on July 27, 1918 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was the seventh of ten children born to parents Louis and Gertrude (nee Beisel) Scheerer. He was clothed in the Carmelite habit on November 29, 1935, made his simple profession on November 30, 1937, and his solemn profession on December 1, 1940 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Following his profession, Br. Louie served his Carmelite Brothers as head cook both at Holy Hill, Hubertus, and St. Florian, West Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

On August 2, 1989, Br. Louis died and is buried at the Carmelite Cemetery in Hubertus. Friars recalled that on the day of his death, Br. Louie prepared and laid out the meal for his fellow brothers as always and then departed for his room where he laid down and passed to eternal life.
