Fr. Kenneth (Edward) Stansky of Saint Ann was born October 11, 1925, in Burlington, New Jersey to Anthony and Anna (nee Szymkus) Stansky. He completed his primary education at All Saints Church School in 1940 and graduated from high school at the Discalced Carmelite Minor Seminary (Holy Hill, Wisconsin) in 1944. During WWII, he served in the 165th Infantry with the Occupation Forces in Hiratsuka and Niigata. Upon his honorable discharge, he received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He entered the Washington Province of Discalced Carmelite Friars in 1947 and was professed on September 12, 1948. From 1948 to 1951, he studied philosophy in the Discalced Carmelite House of Philosophy (Holy Hill) and professed final vows on September 12, 1951. He was then sent for his theological studies to the Order’s International College in Rome where he was ordained on July 4, 1954. He completed his theological studies in 1955.
After his return to the United States, Fr. Kenneth taught Dogmatic Theology at the College of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Discalced Carmelite School of Theology) in Washington, DC. He also was a guest lecturer in theology at Dunbarton College, Washington, DC (1964-1965). In 1970, Fr. Kenneth earned a master’s degree in social work from Barry University, Miami, Florida and shortly thereafter was hired as chaplain-social worker at Rancho San Antonio, Chatsworth, California. In the mid-1970s, Fr. Kenneth was assigned to the Discalced Carmelite Monastery in Washington, DC where he took up ministry as chaplain-social worker in Laurel, Maryland. Fr. Kenneth was also assigned as Spiritual Assistant to several Secular Carmelite Order chapters as well as regular help-our ministry (1990s). In 1993, he was transferred to St. Florian Monastery, West Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he ministered as chaplain to the School Sisters of St. Francis at Mary Hill (later Sacred Heart Home), was spiritual assistant to the Secular Order Carmelites in West Milwaukee and Des Plaines, Illinois; and served as sub-prior and treasurer at St. Florian Monastery. He continued all these ministries until his death.
Fr. Kenneth died on December 12, 1995, and is buried at the Carmelite Cemetery in Hubertus, Wisconsin.
