Fr. Daniel (Thomas) McCauley of the Sacred Hearts was born in Woburn, Massachusetts on June 25, 1924. He was the last of nine children born to Martin and Margaret (nee McCabe) McCauley. Father served in the United States Navy in WWII. He made his simple profession on August 15, 1949, and was ordained to the priesthood on June 4, 1955. Among his priestly ministries, Fr. Daniel served as an Army Chaplain in Korea and Arizona and also was a social worker in Arizona. He studied Latin, Philosophy, Theology, Music and was an instructor in Gregorian Chant. Between 1986-2004, he was Resident Chaplain for the Carmelite Monastery in Carmel, California and received permission to live part time in a hermitage in Corralitos, California. In 2008, he retired to Holy Hill, Wisconsin and entered eternal life on January 31, 2011. Father will be missed by many people whose lives he touched with his wisdom, holiness, gentleness, sweet humor and beautiful singing. He is buried at the Carmelite Cemetery in Hubertus, Wisconsin.
