Br. Aloysius (Bernard) Holder of St. Rita was born April 30, 1917, in Chicago, Illinois; the beloved only son Victor and Frances (nee Zinngrabe) Holder. On May 19, 1936, Br. Aloysius entered the Carmelite Order at Holy Hill. He made his simple profession on May 20, 1938 and his solemn profession on May 20, 1941. Following his profession, Br. Aloysius (Ally) became the cook for his brothers, both in Brookline, Massachusetts (1942-1943), and at Holy Hill (1943). In the early 1950s, he was assigned to the kitchen at Sacred Heart Monastery in West Milwaukee, preparing meals from recipes that had been handed down from generations of brothers. Br. Aloysius died on June 22, 1995, after 57 years as a Carmelite brother. He is buried at the Carmelite Cemetery in Hubertus, Wisconsin.
